The Nevada County Performing Arts Guild is proud to announce
it's Fall Musical production of "Aladdin” The Musical.
This age-old tale has been told and retold for centuries. Now,
Mila Johansen has adpated it in to a, humouous, yet touching
fast-paced musical. Mila collaborated on the musical score with
local composer, Darryl Stines.
Opening on the streets of Al Kabar, we are greeted by Baba Abdul,
a local merchant who says, “When in Arabia, do as the Arabians
do.” Aladdin, a young pickpocket, is discovered by the
Sultan’s Chief Advisor, Suleyman, who is also, as it happens,
an evil sorcerer. Aladdin is just skinny enough to fit into the
small opening of a cave that Suleyman knows to contain a lamp
of magical powers. Also fitting into his plans, Suleyman has
sweet-talked the Sultan into marrying his evil sister, Jullanar.
Jullanar has plans of gaining the Sultan’s treasury by
getting rid of his seven daughters by marrying them off as quickly
as possible to any prince who will have them.
So in a nutshell, boy meets girl, boy is about to lose girl
so boy, with the help ofhis magnificent, bumbling, half-powered
Genie, saves girl and all her sisters. A delightful tale of love
and splendor for audiences of all ages.
Paulette Rudolph directs a very talented cast of 40 young talented
thespians. The beautifully artistic and colorful costumes are
designed by Melissa Kaput. The creative & elaborate set along
with the costumes, music and witty humor makes this particular
production a display of pageantry and artistic endeavor.
